Our dogs are not a marketing idea. They are the foundation of how we read behavior, apply pressure, locate scent, and support real property decisions.
The Foundation
Nutmeg K9 grew out of a working farm, dog training facility, and breeding program built around dogs with real work to do.
That means we look at each dog as an individual working partner: drive, focus, environmental confidence, handler connection, recovery, and the ability to work clearly around people, property, wildlife, and distractions.
Border Collies and Patterdale Terriers were chosen because both breeds are still used today for work that closely reflects what they were originally developed to do. We value working instincts that have been preserved through purpose, tradition, and practical use.
Most of our breeding stock is imported from Great Britain because of the high standards placed on working ability. That helps us stay close to the working lines, traditions, and practical traits that shaped these breeds.
As our services expanded, the dogs expanded with them. Border Collies remain central to goose management, while Patterdale Terriers now support the bed bug and rodent side of the program.
Goose Management
Originally developed in the border country between Scotland and England, Border Collies were bred for intelligence, control, responsiveness, and stock work.
Border Collies bring controlled movement, pressure, timing, and responsiveness to humane goose management. Their work helps discourage geese from settling without relying on harm or unnecessary disruption.

Detection & Rodent Work
Developed in Northern England as compact working terriers, Patterdales were bred for determination, hunt drive, problem-solving, and working close to difficult quarry.
Patterdale Terriers bring intensity, hunt drive, problem-solving, and determination to the evolving bed bug and rodent work. Their inclusion reflects the same working-dog standard that shaped the original goose dog program.
